Most people think that conservatories are a bright light room that they can sit and enjoy the sun in, however they do not think about adding heating to the conservatory so that it can be used throughout the rest of the year. By spending a little extra money and some extra time when you are planning the conservatory, you can turn the room into a space which is used for a week or so per year, to an area that can be used all year round.

A radiator or underfloor heating are the two most common choices when it comes to deciding how to heat your conservatory during the winter. Both systems can either run off their own system so that the conservatory temperature can be controlled separately to the rest of the house or on the same system as the rest of the house. No matter which option you go for, you will want to ensure that the conservatory has its own thermostat, allowing you to control the temperate in the conservatory separate to the rest of the house.

Lets now take a look at these two conservatory heating options and decide which one would be better for your needs.

Radiators - Suitable if you have any low walls or solid walls in the conservatory which the radiators can be mounted on to. In order so save some floor space you could even have the radiators set in to a fake low wall with a radiator cover put on the front. Even if the radiators are against a wall rather than in the wall it is recommended that you have some sort of radiator cover built around them as this will not only hide an otherwise unattractive radiator, but it will also save anybody brushing up against it and burning themselves.

Under floor heating - Certain conservatories are unable to have radiators fitted in them, or you may just not want to have radiators fitted inside your conservatory. If this is the situation you are in, then it is probably best to opt for under floor heating and floor grilles in your conservatory. This type of heating is basically a trench around the conservatory which then has a pair of pipes and lots of heating elements put into it. Once the system is in place, hot water flows through the pipes which heats the elements, which then heats the conservatory. On top of the trench, floor grilles are then placed so that you are able to walk around and they also create a very attractive feature.

Whatever type of heating you opt for, it is also best to ensure that you get some quality conservatory blinds that matches your conservatory furniture in there as these will also help to control the heat in the room.
